 Boston–Portsmouth Air Show - August 28-29

Are you ready to mark the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America with one of the signature centennial celebrations in the country? On August 28 and 29, The Boston-Portsmouth Air Show will take place at the Portsmouth International Airport at Pease. Headlined by the US Navy Blue Angels in their first New Hampshire performance in more than 20 years, the Boston-Portsmouth Air Show promises to offer fun and excitement for the whole family. Other acts include the US Army Golden Knights Parachute Team, Sean D. Tucker, and New England’s own Rob Holland.

Scouts throughout the state are earning their way to the Boston-Portsmouth Air Show by selling tickets, so if you plan on attending, we encourage you to seek out your local Scouting units to purchase tickets. For more information on the Boston-Portsmouth Air Show, please visit www.bostonportsmouthairshow.com.

 Air Show Ticket Sales

The Boston-Portsmouth Air Show ticket sales are well underway.  Scouts have opportunities to get iPods, Xboxes, and even $5,000 cash through the 100 Prizes for 100 Years prize program.  To get more information or more tickets, contact Katie Graham at Katie.Graham@Scouting.org.

The Boston Portsmouth Air Show Needs Volunteers

500+ volunteers are needed each day to support all of the action and excitement the Boston Portsmouth Air Show has to offer, so there are many spots still open! Volunteer to work at the Air Show and you will receive free entry! See the Navy’s Blue Angels, the Brazilian Smoke Squadron, the Army’s Golden Knights and many other exciting performances while working together with friends and fellow Scouters. Be a part of this spectacular celebration by volunteering today!

Air Show Encampment - August 27-29

The Air Show Encampment is an opportunity for troops, teams, crews/ships, and posts to tent close to the Boston-Portsmouth Air Show site, gain admission to the show for both days, provide some friendly service, and get some cool stuff!  Check-in for the Air Show Encampment begins at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 27.  For more details and to register for this great opportunity, please visit www.nhscouting.org/airshow.

 Youth Protection Training Policies

Youth safety is the No. 1 concern of the BSA.

To increase awareness of this societal problem and to create even greater barriers to abuse than already exist today in Scouting, the Boy Scouts of America is implementing several important changes to further enhance its Youth Protection policies:

Effective June 1, 2010:

  • Youth Protection Training is required for all registered volunteers.
  • New leaders are required to take Youth Protection Training before they submit their application for registration. The certificate of completion for this training must be submitted at the time application is made and before volunteer service with youth begins.
  • Youth Protection Training must be taken every two years. If a volunteer's Youth Protection Training record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be reregistered.

It’s Not Too Late to Sign-up for Summer Camp!

If you were thinking about signing up your Scouting unit or your own kids for summer fun at one of Daniel Webster Council’s summer camps, but never got around to it, there’s still time!

Cub Scouts can attend a week at Camp Carpenter Cub World, take advantage of one of six Day Camp programs at locations around the state, or experience Akela Camp with a parent or guardian even if no one else from their Pack plans to go to camp.

The same goes for Boy Scouts interested in going to Hidden Valley for either a week of traditional summer camp or a high adventure experience in the backcountry with Valley Voyageur or Spoke.

A summer camp experience is an important part of the Scouting program that no Scout should miss out on! There are opportunities for advancement, trying new things, and forming memories and friendships that will last a life-time.

Visit www.nhscouting.org/camping for more information on summer camping in Daniel Webster Council and register online today!

Camp Carpenter Service Day - June 12

A Service Day will be held at Camp Carpenter on Saturday, June 12, 2010 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. All friends of Camp Carpenter including Scouters, Scouts and parents are welcome to attend. Projects for the day will include campsite set up, program area set up, landscaping and general clean up of the grounds. If you have trade skills, please let Steve know, so he can match a project to your skills. Wood chippers, wood splitters and chain saws with safety gear and knowledgeable operators would also be helpful to continue the clean up from the storm in February.

Please register to help Steve determine the projects for the day. Lunch will be provided for those who register before June 5. For more information and to register contact Steve Hambleton at (603) 623-5962 or s.hambleton@comcast.net.

 Philmont 2011

While the Daniel Webster Council 2010 Philmont Contingent gets ready to fly out to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico for the experience of a lifetime this summer, Venturers, Scouts who will be at least 14 by next September, and adult leaders of any interested Scouts should consider becoming part of the 2011 Philmont Council contingent scheduled for July 13-27, 2011. We are starting to form the Crews now. If you are interested, visit www.scouting.org/philmont for some background information, and then e-mail John.Rainville@scouting.org to tell Council you want to know more. Philmont requires each Council group to have a minimum of 7 members and a maximum of 12, so we need to determine interest ASAP to reserve our spaces! More info will be available soon on the Council website.

Griswold Scout Reservation Trading Post Pre-Order

Troops, Scoutmasters, have you ever put your list of supplies you need together for the trading post at camp only to get there and find out that someone else beat you to it? We have solved your problem. The camp directors and associates at the Manchester Scout Shop have gotten together and developed a plan to make your supply list easier for you. All you have to do is develop your list using the order form online, available at the leader’s pre meeting, or available at the Scout Shop then fax it, mail it, or drop it off at the Scout Shop at least two weeks ahead of your arrival at camp then sit back and relax. Your order will be pulled together, delivered to your camp, and ready for you to pick up when you arrive. What if you can’t find an order form? Use a piece of paper to make your list, just make sure you are specific and give details about what you want. Include your name, unit number, contact phone number, the camp you will be attending, your arrival date and anything else you think we should know in order to get your needs list together correctly. How shall you pay for your order? You can pay for the order when you send in your list or when you arrive at camp, visit the camp trading post, and pick up your order. You can use a check, cash, or a credit card. In order to ensure that your order is ready for you it MUST be at the Scout Shop at LEAST two weeks ahead of your arrival time or the order will not be guaranteed to be there the Sunday you arrive even though we will try our best. The order would arrive later in the week if it is a late order so you would get it, just not on Sunday for your arrival. What can you order ahead of time? Any item you would normally find in the Scout Shop or at the camp trading posts.
