Coin Collecting Badge Take Note
The Worlds Fair of Money is taking place August 10 - 14 at Haynes Convention Center Boston. Some of the best collections ever assembled will be displayed of US Colonial coins, paper money, world currency. All the difficult requirements for this badge will be at this convention. Can attend any one or more days.
The safety of our youth is the number one concern of the BSA. Please review these notes taken from our council website:
New volunteers: As of June 1, 2010, all registered adult volunteers- no matter what their position- must complete Youth Protection training before beginning their volunteer service. Adults interested in volunteering can create an account at www.myscouting.org to take the training online & print out a completion certificate to attach to their adult application. Applications will not be processed without this certification. As long as their application is fully completed, submitted to the council service center, and approved, their fee is paid, and their Youth Protection training has been received by and acknowledged by the council, leaders will be able to interact with youth members while the criminal background check (CBC) is still pending. After their application is processed and they receive their BSA membership card with its i.d. number, they can go back to their MyScouting account to add their membership i.d. number, ensuring that all future online trainings will be assigned to their individual training record.
Currently registered volunteers: All registered leaders should take or renew their Youth Protection training so that it is current as of today. Every effort should be taken to encourage all adults in Scouting to have a current certificate of completion of the Youth Protection training. A unit will not be able to recharter on Dec. 4th without its key registered adults being up-to-date on YPT.No individual leader will be able to register without being up-to-date on his or her YPT.
Merit badge counselors are registered volunteer positions and must take Youth Protection training.
A unit's executive officer (institutional head) needs to take YPT if s/he is registered with the BSA. If s/he is not a registered leader, the training is highly recommended though not mandatory.
Tiger Cub adult partners and ScoutParents are not registered adult positions, so they are not required to take YPT, though it is strongly recommended.
You must complete the entire online training in order for your Youth Protection certificate to be valid. This ensures you receive the lastest information on BSA Youth Protection. The quiz has been removed from the e-Learning Center because the content did not reflect the new changes in Youth Protection policy.
How to get trained: Youth Protection Training is available online at www.myscouting.org. When a currently registered adult completes the training using their membership i.d. number, that individual's training record is immediately updated. Leaders taking YPT at Boy Scout camp this summer will have their training recorded as soon as that training attendance record is submitted. We will be offering a YPT class at the Tues. November 9th Roundtable at the Keene LDS church for anyone wishing to take the training in person, and we will be happy to offer another opportunity if there is interest- let me know.
I've received a listing of all YPT trained adults in our district who are registered with units. I will be sending each unit's list of YPT trained adults to each unit leader within the next few days, and I will also copy the list to your unit commissioner. If some of the adults in your unit do not have ready access to a computer or have dial-up, your commissioner may be able to help arrange for a small class in front of a laptop.
Our council website has a list of Q & A regarding Youth Protection Training. Feel free to contact me if you have additional questions or concerns about getting your volunteers trained. Thank you for your support in making sure all the adults who work with your Scouts are trained in YPT as soon as possible.
NEW: Volunteer Meeting, May 26, 7pm, Camp Carpenter.
Cub/Boy Scouts/Crews have an opportunity to attend the show and camp nearby. Food provided, and much more. See calendar item for details.
District Announcements for All
Anniversary Awards
To make sure you are all aware of a special patch & ribbon recognition program that is open to all Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers, Adult leaders, and BSA Alumni. A Year of Celebration takes place from 9/1/09 through 12/31/10. Program participants will earn recognition for making a difference in their communities due to their dedication to five of Scouting's core values: Leadership, Character, Community Service, Achievement, and the Outdoors. Participants can earn each of five ribbon awards to display from the special 100th Anniversary commemorative patch.
As of January 1st 2010, Daniel Webster Council is now using internet advancement for 100% of advancement reporting for all program levels. This process will enable units to enter their own advancement records, print an advancement report, and obtain their current unit roster and unit history.
Click on the image for Internet Advancement below. This will only work with Internet Explorer. Each unit has a specific unit access code which will not change in subsequent years (this is not the same code you used to access internet rechartering). If you do not yet know your unit's special code for internet advancement, please contact Pete Bissell at 209-4209. The site will walk you through the process and you can save and exit at any time. The first time you use the system you will "register." Subsequent times you will "log in." If your advancement chair changes you should call council to ask them to reset your account to zero- then the new adv. chair will have to register as if it is the first time entering the system.
You will be given the option of loading council's roster or entering yours from your own software. Make the necessary advancement changes and double-check it before you submit. Once the report is submitted you cannot change it, though you can go back in to make a change if within 24 hours. (If you send a corrected copy online, print it out and write a note stating that this is the revised copy and has been entered online.) Print a hard copy of your final report and obtain the necessary signatures. Then you can either take the signed copy with you to the Scout store, or snail mail or fax the signed copy to the store if someone will be picking up or if you'd like your advancements shipped. Keep in mind that the store will charge a fee for pulling items off the shelf and another fee for shipping.
If you have questions with this process please feel free to consult Pete Bissell or your friendly unit commissioner.
