Each year, the Daniel Webster Council offers the opportunity for individual Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts, and Venturers to participate in an “adventure of a lifetime” which is a challenging Scouting experience at Philmont Scout Ranch, located in Cimarron, New Mexico. Philmont Scout Ranch is a national camping area, owned and operated by the Boy Scouts of America.
Philmont Scout Ranch offers the ultimate in high adventure programming, with dozens of unique treks to choose from. The ranch includes more than 185,000 acres (about 215 square miles) of rugged terrain with hundreds of mountain peaks ranging in elevation from 6,500 to 12,441 feet in the Sangre de Cristo (Blood of Christ) range of the Rocky Mountains.
Organized into crews of 7-12 people, including at least two adult leaders, participants hike Philmont's mountains for ten full days, spending nights at various backcountry camps. Crews can participate in a variety of programs presented by Philmont backcountry staff at these camps. Programs include horseback riding, burro packing, gold panning, rock climbing, 30.06 rifle shooting, archaeology, mountain biking and interpretive programs such as homesteading and “ Mountain Man Rendezvous”.
Applications to participate in this program must be submitted by each individual Scout or Venturer. Applications for more than one participant from that same family must also be submitted on separate application forms. Be sure to get your application submitted early for the best chance of reserving a space!
ALL CREWS will depart from and return to the Manchester area, and travel as a contingent group at all times. Travel arrangements include airline flight, chartered coach or passenger van, touring fees, food, housing and Philmont program fees.
